In Wicca and related forms of Paganism, the candle is frequently used on the altar to represent the presence of the God and Goddess, and in the four corners of a ritual circle to represent the presence of the four classical elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. When used in this manner, lighting and extinguishing the candle marks the opening and closing of the ritual. The candle is also frequently used for magical meditative purposes. Altar candles are traditionally thick tall candles or long tapers which are available in many colours.

Candle magick is simple because it employs little ritual and few ceremonial 
artifacts.

The candles you use for any type of magical use should be unused. And never used again for another purpose or magical working.

Once you have purchased or made your ritual candle it has to be oiled or 'dressed' before burning. The purpose of dressing the candle is to establish a psychic link between it and the magician through a primal sensory experience. By physically touching the candle during the dressing procedure, you are charging it with our own personal vibrations and also concentrating the desire of your magical act into the wax. The candle is becoming an extension of the magician's mental power and life energy. Give the candle some of your personal vibrations. This will give the wax your thoughts, desires and life-force. You can also use an anointing oil on the candle. The energy from your hands will pass into the wax. Always start rubbing the oil from the top to the bottom when anointing a candle. Then go from bottom up to the center of the candle. While you are oiling the candle think about what you want to accomplish. Visualise success and see your desires accomplished.

The candles you use can be coloured in accordance with the following magical uses:
White- spirituality and peace.
Red- health,energy,strength,courage, sexual potency.
Pink- love affection and romance.
Yellow- intellectualism, imagination, memory and creativity
Green- fertility, abundance, good luck and harmony
Blue-inspiration, occult wisdom, protection and devotion
Purple -Higher psychic ability, spiritual power and idealism
Orange- ambition. career matters and the law. 
Brown is used for support, security, home, friendship, grounding and endurance. 
Black is used to rid yourself of negative energies and to keep someone out of your space. 
Silver- clairvoyance, inspiration, astral energy, intuition and the Goddess. 
Gold attracts positive influences and it's connected with justice and career matters, and the God

To use the candle, one rubs the appropriate oil (such as love, money, happiness, etc.) from the top of the candle to the bottom while visualising the spell working for a full five minutes.
