Chris Burrows

Ven. Chris Burrows
Was born in 1948, and began following Buddhism in 1969 while a successful Jazz and Rock drummer in London. He studied in Europe, India, Nepal and Los Angelese and was ordained as a Zen Monk (Rev. Shingen) in 1983.
He now teaches Budhism and Zen Drumming.

The Venerable Chris Burrows has created these recordings based on the teachings he has received during more than 35 years of devotion to the Buddhist faith.  Chris has used genuine antique drums, gongs, bells and singing bowls to produce this authentic series of albums.

Change Your Life
with the Ven. Chris Burrows
"Take control of your mind and you take control of your life" is the philosophy behind these two programs for self improvement, based on the unique, self-help workshops that Chris now conducts around the world.
By being in control you can achieve almost anything! An improved feeling of well-being coupled with the positive thinking that these programs will help you to achieve, means that YOU CAN master anxiety, YOU CAN increase your self esteem and in turn YOU CAN control your blood pressure, overcome insomnia, relieve headaches, stop smoking or even slow down the ageing process.
Whilst combining over 30 years of experience in Eastern Meditation and relaxation practices with Western self-hypnosis techniques, these exercises are completely safe and you will remain aware and in control at all times, although you should ensure that it is both safe and practical to relax deeply. i.e. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS RECORDING WHILST DRIVING OR OPERATING MACHINERY.

Tibetan Singing Bowls performed by theVen. Chris Burrows
Suitable for all forms of meditation or just simple relaxation, this album has been produced as a result of the many requests that Chris has received from "around the world" for an uncomplicated and uninterrupted recording featuring the warm and calming tones of Tibetan Singing Bowls.
A combination of five bowls, three Tincha Bells and three Drilbu Bells have been used and all are genuine antique instruments constructed from various base metals including gold, silver, copper and zinc and were collected by Chris during his travels through Tibet.
You can listen to this album whilst you meditate, or while you soak in the bath, listen for just a few minutes, or the entire 50 minutes, the choice is YOURS! There are no rules.
Chris uses this album both personally and as a backdrop to his "Change Your Life" workshops around the world.

Waves - A Meditation in Sound
Performed by Ven. Chris Burrows
When creating this recording, Chris worked in the classical Indian music tradition of performing each of the four pieces at the time of day that he intended them to be used.
1. Morning Meditation between 6am - 8am
2. Midday Meditation between 12noon - 2pm
3. Late Afternoon Meditation between 4pm - 6pm
4. Evening Meditation between 8pm - 10pm
However, as Chris would be the first to point out, we are all unique individuals and, as such, should feel free to listen to any of the tracks at any time of the day, whatever suits YOU!

Zen Buddhist Chanting with Ven. Chris Burrows  (Shingen)
Combining the sound of chanting with the energy of the temple drum, Chris has multi-layered his own Buddhist chanting to create the illusion of the atmosphere of a wooden meditation hall, high in the Japanese Mountains. Accompanying himself of the Taiko Drum, Chinese Wind Gong, Mokugyo (wood block) and Tibetan Cymbals, the finished effect is enthrallingly realistic and a trued spiritual experience for the listener. Two of the tracks are deliberately long with Mantras you may like to join in with (mantras detailed on trayliner). The first 10 chants are in Japanese, the next in the ancient language of Pali and the twelfth in Tibetan.
